The Best Gluten Free Milk Alternatives
Many people with celiac disease face the dual challenge of needing to avoid dairy as well as gluten. But you don’t have to sacrifice taste or nutrition. This complete guide to gluten free milk alternatives has everything you need to choose the best dairy and gluten free milk alternatives for you.
Why Consider Milk Alternatives?
Regular milk from your grocers dairy case is naturally gluten free.
So is butter, cheese, cream, yogurt and ice cream. This makes dairy products a safe and nutritious choice for your gluten free diet. Read labels of course to ensure there is nothing unexpected.
So why look for milk alternatives? Here are a few reasons:
lactose intolerance
casein intolerance
other issues with dairy products
you prefer a plant based diet.

Chocolate?
Yes you read that right. Rich dark chocolate is the secret ingredient that gives this tummy warming cold weather comfort food a a special depth of flavor that you never knew was possible.
My gluten free beef stew pairs the rustic elegance of red wine with the decadence of dark chocolate. Just look at that deep dark gravy!
It’s made in the traditional French bourguignon or burgundy style which simply means “cooked in a red wine sauce”.
This Gluten Free Beef Stew is the perfect savory warm January dinner.

What I’m Reading
The Complete Mediterranean Cookbook
500 Vibrant Kitchen Tested Recipes for Living and Eating Well Every Day
America’s Test Kitchen
It’s not a gluten free cookbook per se, but many of the recipes are naturally gluten free, and the ones that aren’t are easily converted.
This cookbook, like other’s from America’s Test Kitchen, is more than a collection of delicious recipes and beautiful photos. It’s educational. You can spend some time reading this cookbook and you’ll be smarter for it.
What’s more, Dr. Alessio Fasano, celiac expert at Massachusetts General Hospital, recommends a gluten free version of the Mediterranean Diet for his patients with celiac disease.
Read my review of The Complete Mediterranean Cookbook, and if it sounds interesting, there’s a link for you to grab the book.
